Our Last Full Day in Santa Teresa, CR

We had a great breakfast, Ahi Omelet with left over paella rice. Lunch was left over Pizza from our favorite pizza place here in town with more Fresh made Cervice. OMG, it gets better and better! Then for dinner, we had Cervice, and also Mahimahi in Fresh coconut milk, bacon, onions, garlic and fresh basil. It was the BOMB!

Our last surf session before we leave CR

We had a great surf session this morning, we were out for almost 3 hours, did some little shopping for last minute preps for food and then went back to the beach to build our own Costa Rican bon fire. Though we had a little difficulty starting it since our lighter decided to run out of fluid, right when we were ready to start building it. Lucky for me, I'm a girl and after one attempt by Keith to ask these guys who were building a bon fire down the beach, for a donation fire log which was already going.  I went down to ask them for a light, they gave me this pretty hefty log to take back, which also didn't work. They must have really felt sorry for us, cuz one of them brought his lighter down to our fire pit and helped us get it started. I love the people here! So now, we make fire! Our tower worked fine, once we got it up and running.
We make fire

Kea and her magic fire wand! LOL

Surf is still kickin out here!

Blow Keith, Blow, it will start...NOT! LOL

Thank God for those guys who were down the beach building their fire.

So some things you need to know if you're coming here! If you're gonna rent a car. they run this scam where they MAKE you take insurance, by telling you either you take the expensive one, and they hold over $1k until you come back or if you don't take any they hold $2k till you come back. They ended up not only holding $13k on my card, but also charging my card for the $500+ to rent the car, pay for the 1 tank of gas and all the addl charges for the insurance that I wasn't going to take. However, I would strongly suggest taking insurance because the roads here are rarely paved. See what happen to this car...NOT good!

See how bad driving can get here in Santa Teresa? LOL

Lets see, life here is SUPER laid back, you'll find people packing their babies up front of their bicycles, ATVs and whatever else they can pack them on. Sometimes there are full families on the ATVs. Bring a bandana and goggles if you're gonna drive around on anything other than a nice a/c vehicle, during this time of year, it is dusty. Poor people walking on the streets. They look like Pigpen, in a dust cloud. LOL its almost hilarious. Dogs rule here, they run everywhere, very rare to see one on a leash. I've yet to see one hit by anything on the road though. People are super low key when driving, no one beeps their horns, or swears at each other. We just drive around people, dogs, other cars. Its pretty cool. You can build a HUGE bon fire anywhere on the beach, no rules, no hassle. People are pretty helpful here. Most speak English, thank God.

Surfing is the life here, there are tons of places to stay. Range from super cheap to WOW that's amazing. We stayed at some amazing places here. My next stop is suppose to be incredible. But you'll all have to wait until I get some internet back in San Jose, CR.

Keith and I are getting better on the waves here, getting hammered lots less. We even made it out to first break today without getting killed. Getting in, well, that was another story, but we survived and had a great time. I was built for 4 wheeling, you should see me drive around here, like an old pro.

Check out this sunset! Wow!

Okay, got some footage to share with all of you before we take off. Its been a blast. Love you and miss you guys! Can't wait to see everyone. Just one more week for me and I'll be back home. Someone needs to rub my butt when I get home. LOL jk

Aloha, Roxanne "Kea" and Keith

End of another great day!

Paella with shrimp, Mahimahi and chicken
Well, our time here is coming to a close, one more full day here.

The menu tomorrow is Breakfast, I'm making (with our fish), black ahi omelets, with paella rice leftovers (which had shrimp, mahimahi, and chicken). For lunch Fish Taco's (mahimahi), and for dinner, Mahi Mahi in Coconut Milk with Onions and Fresh Basil and probably the rest of the Paella rice. That should finish us off.

Black Ahi Sashimi

Dinner was awesome, we ate what we could of the Black Ahi sashimi and made a full pot of the paella. So yummy.

Will post pics tomorrow.

Side note, Keith returns to Hawaii on Sat arriving on Sunday, I think. Me, I'm going deep into the rainforest on Saturday, no tv, no inet, no phone. which means no communication until I get to San Jose, CR at the Holiday Inn. If not there then either Florida or Los Angelos. Worse case back home in Hawaii. LOL

We moved to a new room today, still nice, but I miss the privacy of the old room. Plus a family with loud kids drove up at 12 midnight last night so we awoke to screaming kids! So much for peace and quiet.

So if you don't hear from me, I'm deep in the rainforest playing with the wildlife. If I don't come back by the 9th, send out the search party.

The owner has two amazing dogs on property, one pit bull and a pit bull/pointer mix. they are absolutely lovely. Sweetest Pit bull I've ever seen. They have adopted me! LOL
Hamoa is named after somewhere in Maui and Cabuya is named after a small town right outside of Santa Teresa.
Our new living room and Kitchen area on the deck

I love these hanging loungers, they are the bomb

Hamoa, I love how she sleeps! Just like me, feet up on the wall! LOL

Cabuya

Hugs and Kisses, Rox "Kea"

Waves still BIG here!

Well, everyone, the waves are still knarly here! Man, you rarely get a break in sets, its non stop butt kickin'. So I had to change boards today, finally got down to a 7' board, really did well paddling out, but the white wash is relentless! Keith did okay on the 7'4" today too. I'm so proud of him, knowing that you're gonna get trashed and still going out. That's courage! LOL

We're enjoying a nice relaxing day here on the mountain after our morning surf session. Keith was so excited to see a huge lizard in the garden today. So cute. Weather is gorgeous today, started out nice and cool, but that sun is starting to get HOT!

Cervice, man, that turned out so good. Have to make that when I get home. Nothing better than eating the fish that you personally caught! Yeah! :) Added tomatoes and avocado to that, omg it was the bomb!

Have a great day.

Fishing, Cooking and Surfing

Well, we went fishing this morning caught some nice fish, I caught a Mahi Mahi and a Jack Fish, Keith caught a Jack Fish and a Tuna. From that we gave our captain a fish and 1/2 of the Mahi Mahi for his family. Saved some Jack fish for the guy who helped us on our first day in town, who led us to Santa Teresa after I got stuck down this long 4X4 Hill that I had no intention of backing up. So crossed the river instead. Made a feast of Sashimi for Keith and I, for lunch and tomorrow's lunch too. A large bowl of Cervice with the Mahi Mahi for 20 people and a bit left over for us to eat tomorrow. 6 fillets with the remainders of the Mahi Mahi for our next 2 nights dinner. Made Jack fish with Coconut Milk, Fresh Basil leaves, Onions and garlic, which turned out great also for the 20 people we met tonight. Will make Paella tomorrow with the Mahi Mahi, shrimp and chicken with Saffron rice. I've never made any of this before, no recipe, who knew I could cook Costa Rican cuisine? LOL Everyone loved the food. So stoked.

After a brief afternoon siesta, since no internet, went through my pics to post, then we went back out in the ocean to surf, the surf was BIG!!!!! Double over head sometimes. The wash here is so destructive, butt kickin to say the least. Big water, big waves, and me on a wide nose board, short, but fat and stubby. NOT a good day for that kind of board. So tomorrow, smaller board, more rocker and less butt kickin for me and Keith. He'll try to epoxy 7'4" that I rode the other day, he'll like that one much better.

Time to go to sleep, hope you enjoyed the post.
That's an awfully small boat!

Our Capt. Toto

That's all there is to the fish boat docks.

Flying in the wind!

Keith's first fish strike, its a baby tuna! yummy, sashimi time.

That's a happy guy!

Me after my Mahi Mahi Catch, you'll see it in a bit. 10 Min fight, I'm exhausted.

My second fish, Jack Fish, good size.

I think Keith's Jack Fish might be a little bit bigger though.

We caught 4 total, not bad for 3 hours of water time.

You wouldn't believe how he got this boat in, Talk about threading the needle.

This is how they get the boat back to the boat house. Hoist and rolling logs under the boat

Keith's Catch

My catch, too big to hold the two. LOL

Me and my Mahi Mahi

Happy campers, everyone eats tonight! Pura Vida!

Pura Vida!

Surfing, Monkeys, and Enjoying the scenery

Its the sky not phenomenal?

Hey look! Its a DT in the pink. The guy owns a long board surf shop right off of this beach.

Priceless little sunburned family walking the beach.

All that black stuff? Bon fires every night on the beaches here. Lots of logs and drift wood everywhere.

Dang it was big out and hairy out there today. Lots of WASH!

Great Moon!

Keith caught this Gecko taking a dump! LOL

I know, the wave isn't impressive, but hey, its still a 7'4" surfboard!

Outside was messing and kicking our butts.

Our neighbors just 10-20 feet from our deck. How cool is that?

Got some surf pics for you, but we didn't want to go out in the massive outer surf area with the camera so you'll get the little inside ones instead. Surf was over head to double over head sets today on the outside. Freaked Keith out when a wave caught him and took him all the way in on his belly. Poor thing shore breaks were killing him paddling out. Me, took me forever to get on an outside wave.

We saw monkeys in our trees right outside our deck. going to u-tube the footage and post some pics too if it'll let me.

Really miss you guys, can't wait to get back to my old surf spot and my surf buddies. I know Ivan and Mike are having a blast in the Philippines, but miss them too.

Asta Manana!
