Back to crazy civilization..these people are crazy!

Well, made it back to society...my first time in a mall i Costa Rica, I really didn't miss a thing. I wonder sometimes which are the animals and which are the civilized species?

I didn't get picture of the crazy traffic, but I have to say, I'm happy to be getting out of this particular location!

See you all soon.

Signing off from Costa Rica's super Nature way!

OMG, this plane is even smaller than the last 2!

Good thing I took the valium! Yikes! I could have ridden in the cockpit with the pilot!

Planting a Tree in Honor of Baachan!

So a couple of things I wanted to take care of before I left was:

1) Plant a tree in the rain forest, which I found the perfect one for the perfect person. I found a purple, hard wood tree that I planted in honor of my Grandmother who will be turning 100 years old next year October. This way she can live forever, well at least through my little tree.

Less heated sunrise, obviously, doesn't want me to go!

Picking out the perfect tree for Grandma (Baachan)

Me and Melvin, ready to plant my tree

This tree is for you Baachan,

2) I wanted to donate some clothes to the local womens group, so I took all my stuff that I didn't need and donated it to them before I left town.

3) Donate to the local community school programs, which I also did.

4) Swim in the ocean by moonlight and swim in the morning while the Pelicans and herrings fly over and fish around me. That was amazing. The guys were fishing too, caught some big stuff.....

Teresa and Jose, Teresa leaves for Santa Theresa tomorrow
It has been a wonderful stay here at Lapa Rios, and I am determined to return someday. Though there are so many other places that I would like to visit, I will leave part of my heart here amongst the animals and the people here on the Oso Peninsula. It was an interesting sunrise this morning, kind of a solemn moment, usually the sun arises bright and strong, this morning, it is hiding in the dark clouds, almost sad that I'm leaving, just enough to wake me up, but not enough to want to stir me too quickly. Keeping it cool enough for me to just enjoy the hummingbirds and the sounds of the birds in the trees and the howler monkey's in the distance. I was restless last night, did not sleep as heavy as I did in previous nights. My legs are eaten up my who knows what, not even mosquitos, probably sand fleas or something, but they are itchy and driving me crazy.

Grievin, is my lifesaver, my new friend!
actually visited the local bar, mostly transplanted american

Me and Grievin sharing a beer! Salud!

Gosh, its so beautiful out here!
Yesterday was great, Jose took me surfing, with his little 6'4' short-board, which I paddled okay, but man, just could not catch a wave. Yesterday, was definitely a long board day, but couldn't find a decent long board to rent so just rode the 6'4". I did not feel too bad though because Jose, probably only caught 3 waves himself on his 5'8" board. We surfed with a group of about 8 people at Mata Paolo, 3 of which were from Hawaii NS and Maui. They were snagging all the waves on their rented Long-boards. Waves are small again today, I was going to go out, but my airport shuttle leaves at 10 am, so I might just be satisfied with taking a dip in the pool instead, then breakfast.

The afternoon, I spent with Grievin, we went to go get a beer at the only local bar here in this area, never been there before, just talked. The young people here are quite accomplished for their age, very impressive, Grievin has been with Lapa Rios for about 6 years, but owns about 3 Hectors of property, a farm somewhere near Puerto Jimenez. Funny, he was born in 1983, the same year that I graduated High School. Man, I'm getting old. I feel very fortunate that I have had the staff to myself for a first 3 days I was here, because the Hotel is starting to get very busy, now they have to be on their "customer service" game. LOL not that they weren't with me, but you can tell the difference, cuz I'm very relaxed where as many of the visitors who come here are a bit, well, more proper-type, if you know what I mean. Grievin and I went for a moonlight swim, with the Pelicans last night it was 3/4 moon. Lots of fish jumping and some big ones too. No wonder the birds were having a feeding frenzie. Quite a beautiful sight.

It was nice to spend some time with Vanessa and Austin this trip. They are very nice people and we had a great time together. Theresa, from Cornell, will be on her way to Santa Teresa soon, to a new property. Maybe someday, I can come back and do something similar, I told them they should have a massage therapist on staff at all times here on property. Having to phone someone in Puerto Jimenez 48 hours advance (maybe) is too long for people to have to plan ahead in a place like this.  We'll see what happens. LOL I wouldn't mind coming back here to do that for a month.

Some of the staff farewells! Asta Luego mes Amis!

Grievin and Alyssa, she just started at Lapa Rios

Lessons Learned in Lapa Rios

So here are some valuable lessons learned in Costa Rica.
Love those sunrises!

Remember to shake out your laundry, don't wanna wear critters!

Check your coffee for swimmers!

Lesson #1: In the morning when you get up, be always mindful that critters and creatures might have joined you sometime during the darkness. Always look on the floor when you are walking in your bungalow, each morning I find dead things scattered around my wood floors. Nothing worse than squishing one of those between your toes right after you get out of bed. NOT a good way to start your day.

Lesson #2: When eating or drinking in CR, make sure you ALWAYS look at what you eat before you put it into your mouth, those little fly like type of buzzy things long to make their way into your food, and if you're not careful, they will end up being the staple protein in your diet here.

Lesson #3:  If you washing your clothes and have them out to dry, make sure you always put them under cover, because rain comes fast here and when it rains, it pours. Your clothes might end up more wet than when you first put them out.

Lesson #4:  When chartering a fishing boat, its nice to give your crew/capt. a offering of your catch. If you catch a lot, you can't eat it all anyway, so you may as well share the wealth, help feed his family and good fortune will always come back to you.

Lesson #5: CR as in everywhere else in the world, a SMILE goes a long way, share what you have and they will be more than generous to share what they have. Knowledge, time and good energy creates long lasting friendships. Nurture them and value them because nothing can separate spirits that feed each other.

Lesson #6: Always make your intention known, believe that you will achieve them and let the good Lord figure out how it will happen. The benefit of "Let God and Let Live" is immeasurable. With God, all things are possible and I have found in my life extremely probably.

I'm sure their are many more lessons I could share with you, but the simple ones go a long way.

I'm off to surf Mata Paolo now, so wish me luck on my last day here at Lapa Rios!

Waterfall Rappelling

Today started out as another beautiful day here in Lapa Rios. Sun warming my room, I could see it slowly coming up. Hot Coffee at my door just waiting for me to dive into that.
I was so excited to head out this morning, because today was Waterfall Rappelling Day. I had dreamed about this for months and it was a beautiful day to head out to the waterfalls. Waves looked a little promising this morning, but they would have to wait for me. I still think that mornings are always better for activity even in Hawaii, than any other time of the day.
We had two guides, Rico and Geraldo. Geraldo could speak English very well.

Great morning sunrise, man, its already cooking out here!

This is what I see every morning when I wake up!

The Rappelling team, Austin, Vanessa, Teresa and Me

Getting our harnesses on and safety talk.

The Repelling Girls!

Vanessa striking her in waterfall pose.

The Gang at the bottom of the big waterfall! Great time.

Austin taking his long run down.

A surprising this happened yesterday in the afternoon, I ran into a young couple here from CA, had great conversations, filled them in on things to do around here and not to miss things. Told them I was going rappelling tomorrow and if they wanted they could join me. Come to find out today, from Theresa, who is a graduate of Cornell doing a live here post internship here in exchange for room and board, that its Vanessa from High School Musical. I had no idea, though I figured she was young and rich and at least somebodies daughter since this place is pretty expensive and she arrived looking like she had some money. Very nice, YOUNG couple and very fun to be with. So they joined us today, Theresa came along so she could write about it in her blog, it was fun to have the four of us. I got some great pictures of everyone else. But me of course. but they were stoked and all got copies of them.
Our guides, Geraldo and Chico

We enjoyed a nice lunch together and I came back to work on the computer copies for everyone before heading to the beach. At the end of our rappelling excursion, we ended at the beach and it was breath-taking, all of us wanted to hit the water, but they were nudging us back up the hill to their base camp for our ride back to Lapa Rios.

The finish at the ocean was priceless too. Great day!
We want more water...the beach is calling us!

OMG Vanessa, Austin and Teresa were in Heaven

Vanessa almost stepped on another Fer-de-lance venomous snake

So happy our guides carried all the gear back up the hill!

I later went down to the beach without my camera, which was charging, only to see, from my deck. 3 spider monkey's making their way from tree to tree in front of my very eyes, not more than 15 yards away from me. One by one, they leaped from tree to tree. It was amazing and i knew it was just for my eyes. I was outside, washing clothes and keeping my eyes on the surf, which so happens to be breaking right now, after I spent 2 hours down there waiting for it, of course. LOL Oh well, tomorrow is a super surf day for me. My last day here. no excursions, no commitments and no worries, most of my clothes are washed and I'll donate most before I leave as well as my bug keep away machines and some muhi for those who are bitten up.

I've completely enjoyed my time here, very nice and relaxing before heading back to a busy schedule at work. The massage didn't work out for tonight but no worries, would rather work with someone who is not so greedy than be desperate for someone who's intentions are not sincere to the profession. I'm a little sad that Keith is not here though, because I'm sure this is one of the reasons he came to Costa Rica, we'll have to bring his back to the rain forest someday. Hey Lapa Rios is for Sale if anyone is interested. 1000 Acres of 80% Primary Forest and 20% secondary forest. Any takers?
